Fall 2021 Diverse Voices Winners

Thank you to all of the incredible writers who entered Diverse Voices this year! Your hard work, talent, and dedication to storytelling shines through in the entries we received.

We are thrilled to welcome the Grand Prize Winners for our Diverse Voices Screenwriting Lab. For the first time, we are welcoming FIVE scripts and six writers to our Diverse Voices Lab! The Lab will include hands-on development with industry executives, WeScreenplay staff, working writers, and each other. It’ll also include meetings with executives and managers to discuss writers next steps, their career, and their projects in development.

COMMONWEALTH, a Feature Script by Jared Hardy

Isolated in the poverty-stricken hills of Eastern Kentucky, a determined thief pulls off the perfect heist, only to be halted by a desperate young woman with plans of her own.

 

GRUNT WORK, a 1 hr Pilot by Sal Bardo

When a struggling artist learns that his girlfriend is pregnant, he resorts to having sex with men for money to help support her – and begins to question everything he once believed about the limits of morality and sexuality.

 

OUT/SOURCED, a 1 hr Pilot by Noa Aimeé and Wesley Tysdale

When the death of their mother unveils a family secret, a DID system of seven must face their conflicting inadequacies in order to hold their lives together. But the strain brings about an unexpected addition to their inner family: a character from the TV show they work on.

 

P***Y, a 1/2 hr Pilot by Connie Shi

When Emily Liu, a repressed 30-year-old woman who has never had an orgasm, starts hearing the voice of her vulva, she is reluctantly thrust into a journey of truth, love, and sexual exploration with her overzealous talking genitals.

 

THE OTHERED, a Feature Script by Minh Anh Vo Dinh

A family of three women finds shelter on a secluded island, where they slowly succumb to the mischievous trickeries of an ancient deity. A horror retelling of a Vietnamese fairytale.
